5 Tips to Better Senior Photos

It’s senior photo season and things are in full swing! You’ve got your session booked and you’re busy preparing to make this the most epic experience of your life. We have got some tips to help you nail it!

Have your hair and makeup done by a professional.

The very first thing you can do to up your game for professional photos, is to have your hair and makeup done by a professional hair and makeup artist. These folks are not called ARTISTS for nothing! They are going to know exactly what the perfect colors are to match each outfit and look. They can take you from cool and casual to Hollywood glam in no time.

We have a hair and makeup artist we can recommend and she is available to stay throughout your session to make sure you are at the top of your game for every single shot.

Plan your outfits ahead of time. Coordinate with your photographer and hair/makeup artist.

For our sessions, we always ask our clients to send us photos of the outfits they’ve chosen. This way, we get an idea of what your vision is and we can make adjustments and suggestions as needed. We also like to connect with our hair/makeup artist to talk through different styles and looks so we can make sure you look like the A-lister you are. We know this is the likely the first time you’ve had photo shoot like this, so we like to take the guess work out of it and give you guidance.

Accessorize!

Don’t be afraid to add your personality and your favorite accessories to your outfits. Think sunglasses, jackets, jewelry, fun statement pieces and shoes. And don’t forget you can change up any outfit by adding or removing a layer. As New Englanders we know you’re an expert on how to layer!

What about Hair, Nails & Teeth

Nails should be neatly trimmed/shaped and we usually suggest a nude or classic look for color. You want something that will compliment all of your outfits, but won’t distract. If you need a haircut or touch-up, we suggest this happen around two weeks before your session. (Especially for guys!) If you plan to do any teeth whitening, this should also start about two weeks before your session — or sooner if you’d like.

HAVE FUN.

Senior photos have changed a lot in the last decades. The possibilities of what we can create together are endless. The most important part is that you HAVE FUN! The more relaxed you are and the more fun you’re having the better your photos will be. We like to think of ourselves as pretty fun people, so we do all we can to make this an incredible experience for you. We take the guess work out of posing for you to make you look your absolute best. So you’ve got no worries and can focus on just enjoying the moment. Senior photos happen once in your life and we want it to be an experience you’ll remember and cherish over the coming years.

BONUS TIP: Create a Pinterest board to share your style and vision!

While we don’t promise to capture the exact photos you put on your board, we will use the photos as inspiration and can tell your style based on what you’ve pinned. Don’t just pin “senior photos”. Pin outfits, pin hairstyles, pin makeup looks. Share that with us and we will run with it!
